About the company

After over 20 years of working in the tattoo industry, I began to realize that all those ink stains and specs on my pants were not as cool as I had previously thought. Not only were they filled with potential viruses and bacteria, but I was getting sick of ruining my good clothes. What’s the point of owning nice clothes if you can’t even wear them to work?

The turning point for me was when my son was born. It is a known fact that babies are extremely vulnerable when exposed to pathogens because their immune systems aren’t fully developed yet. I found myself wanting to rip my pants off as soon as I got home so that I could protect my son from any potential danger that laid hidden in my clothes.

Around that same time I was filming a television show where I had to wear my best clothes. Soon enough, ink splatters became a persistent problem for both health + safety reasons and my appearance. It was at this time that I began searching for the best apron out there. I started buying various aprons, some of which were well over $300, but none of them could do the job right. I encountered several issues with each new apron I tried. I knew there had to be a solution – so the @tattooapron was born to solve each and every problem I faced with other aprons:

1 – Most aprons are made of porous material such as fabrics or stitching that easily absorb ink. These materials are the perfect hiding place for bacteria and can’t be disinfected thoroughly with any of the standard cleaning products available in the tattoo industry.

2 – The aprons that were made with non-porous materials would crack and break almost immediately after coming into contact with disinfecting products.

3 – None of them fit well. They would constantly slide to the side, leaving the knee area exposed.

4 – In order to overcome the sliding, you would have to tighten the straps so hard that it would interfere with your circulation, leaving your leg numb and hurting.

I knew what the industry needed, but I didn’t know where to begin. Then one day I was tattooing my good client, now friend and business partner, Mark, and told him of my struggle and vision. Mark not only runs his own accessories company, Avery James, but he knew how to make my vision come to life, so we set out to create the best tattoo apron in the game!

So for the last couple of years we’ve been working on solving common problems, searching for the right materials, and building prototypes. Soon enough my friend @ralfnonnweilerta2 saw the apron and suggested that we alter our design so that we could attach our phone to the apron, and that’s just what we did!

If you are a busy tattoo artist, having the ability to select music, answer important calls, listen to podcasts, and hold or print references without having to stop to take your gloves off is essential. The @tattooapron changes everyday life by allowing you to seamlessly + safely integrate technology with your work.
